An article on Negativity and Positivity
By Michele - April 2011
Hi, my name is Michele and I was asked if I would share my feelings on a few things for this website; reluctantly I said ok. Reluctant only because I would really need to sit down and think my feelings through and as we all know, thinking requires focus, and focus requires time which I do not have a whole lot of.
A decade ago I enjoyed the challenge of writing stories around a subject someone would give me. It was fun, light hearted, and the stories allowed my imagination to grow to the extent of how I use to think as a child. This section will not be about stories, and adventures I would take myself on, but will be about my feelings on the different things I see around me in life, along with my ongoing journey in finding my inner self.
I am not a professional writer nor am I a counselor, so please take what you wish out of my writings. Some of you may think I am full of bologna and some may think I am off my rocker, but if just one person reads and comes out of it with, I can relate to that then everything I say will be worth it, to me at least.
How does one go about finding the positive in their life and losing the negative? That is a good question and very difficult to answer because everybody has a different view regarding positivity and negativity, so I am just going to tell you how I feel on the subject. If you think about it, negativity has ruled just about our whole life, from the time we were old enough to understand words and even before that we were hearing things like dont touch that, you cant do that, you are not old enough, get down from there, get off that etc. etc., and that was before we ever started going school. Yes, negativity has always been with us and we have grown to accept it as part of our daily life and sadly it shows as you can see in the world around us.
It would be good if we could have a nice balance of 50% positive and 50% negative, even better would be 75% positive and 25% negative, after all you need some negativity in the world to balance things out. But that is not happening now days, in fact negativity is winning the war. Our world and most everyone in it is at odds these days, race against race, religion against religion, politics against politics, job shortages, money shortages, food shortages, health insurance scams and shortages, high cost of living, drug wars and usage, and lets not forget the most important thing for life at all to sustain; the environmental rape of our planet and for what? What are we actually doing to ourselves? We are destroying each other and everything that is beautiful about our world. Everywhere you turn our world is feeding from negativity and if we do not change it soon, it will be too late.
If you do not believe what I am saying test it for yourself, spend one day being alert and noticing all the negative surrounding you. Listen to your co-workers, your family, and your neighbors, whoever it is you spend your day with, listen to the news, or the radio. Ok now, was I wrong? Was your day filled with all love, glee and joy? If so than you are very lucky or living in a bubble and you might as well not continue reading, because your life is full of positive and I do not wish to change that, for the rest of us, we just need to add some more positive in our life. There are many ways to feel and be positive even on a small scale and you will be surprised at the difference you will feel in a matter of days. I believe the human spirit is very strong and that we can do anything we set our minds on if we try.
Below are a few things that I believe can help us be positive, add any of them to your daily life in a way that you will notice them and see if makes you feel better and more positive.
1. Be kind to yourself, look at the good in you and take pride in all of it. Do not degrade yourself or call yourself names.
2. Find a few good affirmations that will suit your life, or write your own, repeat them every day as often as you wish; example: I am healthy and happy in my life, and today I choose to share that happiness by being kind to a stranger.
3. Look around you and pick out something that to you is beautiful. It could be a flower, a rock, a tree, a bird, a sunrise or a sunset, anything at all that you find beautiful and focus on it. See its beauty and gentleness, feel its energy and love, see the nature that knows no negativity and send it your love. Start to look at the natural beauty that surrounds us each and every day and give it a moment of your love.
4. Sit back for 5 minutes a day and tell yourself what you are thankful for, or better yet write down a list of everything you find in your life that you are thankful for and read it daily.
5. Listen to some music, I mean really listen to it, feel the music and the joy it gives you.
6. Do you get caught in traffic jams often going to and coming from work, instead of looking at it as an inconvenience, think of it as some quiet time for yourself, allow yourself to enjoy the moments alone or with friends if you have passengers and think or talk about some upbeat and positive subjects. Whatever it is you choose, there are many ways to add positivity into your daily life that can overtake the negativity or at least balance it out equally. As a world and a race of humans, positive thoughts will eventually give us positive changes..as long as we believe and never give up the need.

Thought for the month
I've learned that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the
happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
