In this new millennium, we are bombarded by technology and encouraged to buy and use electronic gadgets whose use is doubtful. I say that because in most cases the demand is created for us, not by us.
One of the consequences of the way in which we live now is that we lose our link with nature and all that is natural in this world. How many of us know children that have no idea where their food comes from or what animal provided their dinner. People now have difficulty in naming trees, flowers, birds and animals, they cease to have meaning in modern life. We turn on the tap, we get water. We go to the store, we get food.
Can you remember when as a child you could enjoy being in the rain, could enjoy smells of damp earth and see the wind as a platform for playing with your kite. When snow meant hours of fun with friends rather than an obstacle to our daily lives. When we had a sense of curiosity about the world around us.
There was a time when we would know all of our neighbours around us and could probably count on them in a crisis. Most of us now would be hard pushed to know our immediate neighbours now.Our skills in communicating are not what they were. I suspect that even within close relationships we minimise discussion. If we can't talk to each other how can we commune with nature.
How whole are we as people. Do we lose out by having a narrow focus on life. Are we missing something, or have we lost something in our journey to a better and easier life.
